How Old Should Children Be to Start Baby Ballet?
Dance classes like baby ballet are not only a fun, structured way for toddlers to release their wiggly energy, they also provide great benefits for kids. Early dance classes teach coordination, cooperation in groups, and rhythm that will continue to benefit your child even if their interests change as they grow up. Kids who fall in love with ballet, tap, or jazz will get the foundation they need to pursue excellence later in life. Dance is a rewarding activity that teaches creativity, self-expression, self-discipline, and teamwork. In baby ballet, kids get to have fun, make new friends, and develop a lifelong love of dance.
You may wonder how old your child should be for their first class of baby ballet.
Kids as young as two-and-a-half can take baby ballet.
At The Landing Dance Center, we want every young dancer to get the best start with an introduction that teaches the fundamentals of ballet. Our mission is to make dance fun for our youngest students, focusing on building confidence, learning how to work in a group, and the basics of rhythm.
Preschool Classes are for kids under age six who are too young to register for General Classes. Our children’s teachers bring patience and understanding into the studio to make the class a fun, engaging experience for all students, regardless of their abilities.
Baby ballet is a great way to introduce your toddler to group learning in a fun, relaxed environment where they learn the principles of dance.

The Foundations class introduces toddlers to the training style used in ISTD General Classes while prioritizing inclusion and encouragement to foster a lifelong love of ballet.
What are the benefits of baby ballet for young kids?
Besides the social benefits of dance classes, even toddlers as young as two and a half can enjoy the physical benefits of dance. Students experience:
Improved flexibility
Greater range of motion
Improved physical strength and stamina
Kids who dance grow up with a love of physical activity that will stay with them even as they become adults. Baby ballet students also learn healthy, creative ways of expressing themselves. Dance students also have improved self-esteem and self-confidence as they become teens.
